Being Jewish has always been central to Debbie Levy’s life—not in terms of worship, ritual, or holidays, but rather in identity. How could it be otherwise? She is the daughter of a refugee from Nazi Germany. For Debbie, it is important that people, young and old, realize that Jewishness contains multitudes—sorrow, for sure, but also joy, humor, weirdness, love, curiosity, yearning, and learning. For her reading challenge, she offers books that illuminate but don’t come anywhere near exhausting, varied Jewish experiences.
