If you want to create a challenge that allows people to achieve different levels by completing a combination of different tasks, a points challenge is probably for you! With a points challenge, you add a point value to different actions, and those different actions’ points add up to earn participants points to earn badges.
For example, reading for 30 minutes might be worth one point, writing a review may count as one point, and completing an activity may be worth one point. These points allotments are sitewide settings that you can learn how to edit here. Then, you toggle on points and activities as earnable badge types, select your earnable point types (which in this case would be minutes, reviews, and activities), and then create the points badges in your preferred increments. Then, participants can decide which tasks to complete in order to earn points badges. For example, the first badge may be worth 10 points, and one participant might earn all their 10 points simply by logging their minutes of reading and another participant might earn all their points by completing activities and writing reviews. The points feature allows participants to “choose their own adventure,” so to speak.
In a points challenge, you would not have logging or review badges. Instead, you would enable your logging preference (minutes, books, etc.) and reviews as earnable point types. When participants log or write reviews, they receive the assigned points and any applicable points badges, rather than an additional logging or review badge. Using logging or review badges in addition to points badges can confuse readers and create a redundant challenge setup.
